I always viewed Maniac Cop as one of those movies I didn't really need to see. What could it show me that the title isn't already giving away. There's a cop, and he is maniacal. Done deal right? Nope.As soon as the opening credits began, I had to hit pause. Larry Cohen had something to do with this? My interest was instantly piqued. Wait, did that just say 'Tom Atkins'. Why didn't someone tell me this was an Atkins joint? Bruce Campbell? Like THE Bruce Campbell? Like young, handsome, 1980's Bruce Campbell? If you dig through all the names I just dropped, you are left with a movie about a cop, who happens to run around like a maniac. Kind of what I had always suspected. It's a fab 80's flick either way and I must disagree with something I read on imdb: "This isn't a film that will please fans of serious movies". Hey, I love me some a dem serious movies! I was in fact pleased by this piece of genre film making. So there!

One of my all time favorite movies. No, it isn't really a great film, but I thought it was a highly entertaining one. I also highly recommend the second and slightly recommend the third film. Part two adds an interesting twist to what you learn about Cordell in the first film.
Both sequels are on instant watch right now!
And Maniac Cop is very awesome!
